To support our network members in accessing STFC facilities, we have collated a list of useful links (including upcoming access application dates), as well as a round up of current or forthcoming funding calls.
ISIS Muon and Neutron Source
- Information on accessing beam time including upcoming application deadlines
- Facility Development Studentship Grant
- Neutron training course
- Science highlights and instrument capabilities
- There is also a video tour of ISIS facility
Central Laser Facility
- Information on the different instruments
- SAQN recorded training session ‘Introduction to the Central Laser Facility’
- Information on accessing beam time
- Application deadlines for Artemis (not currently open), Octopus and Ultra (next call likely to be in July), Vulcan and Gemini (not currently open).
Diamond Light Source
- Information on the different instruments
- Information on accessing beam time (including upcoming deadlines)
STFC / UKRI Current Funding Calls
- Population health improvement network of clusters (pre-announcement)
- Artificial intelligence innovation to accelerate health research (deadline 28 March)
- UKRI cross council responsive mode pilot scheme (pre-announcement)
- STFC Horizons Net Zero call (announcement at event on 1 March)
- Molecular and cellular medicine (next deadline 3 May)
- This is one of MRC’s standard Boards with three annual deadlines. The Board supports research looking into basic biological mechanisms or technologies relevant to human health and disease, including understanding the aetiology of disease and developing treatments. Please note that Exposures, biological mechanisms and disease is a Board opportunity which we have strategically prioritised. This includes understanding the causal links between current and emerging environmental exposure threats (for example, air pollution, chemicals, nanoparticles, mixtures) and human disease.
- Centre in climate change and health (outline bid deadline 17 May)
- This is ESRC-led but MRC are providing funding to this strategic call. A couple of areas in scope that might interest the SAQN include vulnerability to the effects of climate change on health, including understanding biological mechanisms and opportunities to better integrate health and environment data to explore new interventions.
